About DIX: Messages New | |
New Design | Aug 20th, 2007 |
DIX has a new layout. These are the most relevant changes:
- The navigation is on the top
- Each dictionary has its own colors: blue (German-Spanish), green (Spanish-English), and orange (English-German, my favorite). Under "Preferences" you can always change the colors for each dictionary individually.
- You can choose the font "Verdana". This, in combination with the color blue and larger font size, is particularly helpful for people with vision impairments (many thanks to the users who taught me this!)
We have also added new forums for the German, English, and Spanish grammar.
Enjoy! |
myDIX - collect, practice, share | Aug 3rd, 2007 |
The new "m"-Symbol on the right side of each translation enables you to create your personal dictionary "myDIX". When presenting results for your query, entries in your personal list will always be shown first.
You can practice entries of your translations list anytime and observe your progress.
You can alse share your list with others - a feature probably very handy for students. For example you can create a list for a specific topic, e.g. a book-chapter, and send the list to your students or collegues. They can then practice this particular vocabulary, or make it their own list and add entries.
You can label your vocabulary and - if you are a registered user - save it on the server for use in other browsers or computers. |
Google | Jun 8th, 2007 |
Add DIX to your Google Homepage:
On DIX click on the "i" icon to search the translations in Google or Wikipedia. |
New record | Nov 15th, 2006 |
For the first time over 300'000 queries on a single day. Thank you for using DIX!
I would like to thank Osvaldo for his continuous support in reviewing error messages and checking new suggestions. We are looking for more volunteers to maintain the vocabulary of this dictionary. |
Firefox Toolbar | Jun 25th, 2006 |
Timo Proescholdt wrote a Firefox Toolbar for DIX, you can download it from his homepage. |
DIX-Live | Apr 11th, 2006 |
Dix now suggests words as you type! Thanks to the Ajax-technology, as it is used for example by Google-Suggest, we provide you with an alphabetical list of entries that match your search. Use the arrow keys or the mouse to select one of them.
As usual, you can (de-)activate this feature by changing your preferences. Your selections are now stored in a cookie, so you don't need to update your bookmarks any more.
In addition, you can now sort the results based on the number of matches in each entry. This feature can be activated in the preferences. |
German dictionary | Mar 16th, 2006 |
Thanks to the Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften, Dix is now fully linked to the dictionary of the contemporary german language DWDS. Follow the [D] link next to the german entries and explore the context and meaning of the german words! |
Extended Dictionary | Jan 28th, 2006 |
Behind the scenes many things have changed in DIX. The most important changes are summarized in the following:- Wildcard-Search: Enter an asterisk "*" to perform a wildcard search, e.g. "suche*" also finds "Suchergebnisse".
- Vocabulary: The dictionary now contains more than 150'000 entries.
- Search unverified entries: As we cannot verify the suggested translations quickly enough, we offer you the option to include unverified entries into the results. Select "Preferences" and turn on "Search unverified entries".
- Unverified results are shown slightly transparent, so that you can always distinguish them. Next to these entries you will find two links [W] (wrong) and [R] (right) respectively. Click on the corresponding link to tell us if you think that the translation is right or wrong.
- To correct reported errors faster, DIX entails an error-tracking system. You can always check error-reports here.
- Your translation suggestions are always welcome.
- Here you find a list of translations that have not yet been validated. Decide which ones are correct!
I would like to introduce Timo Proescholdt and Osvaldo Saldías Collao. They will be part of our team. Timo will support us with the implementation of DIX, Osvaldo with the correction of new translations. Welcome! Have a look at the book "Pueblos Originarios de Chile" written by our team member Fresia Barrientos.
Enjoy! Raimundo Sierra |
